Product Description
A jewelled gold arch with a leafy top frames the deity in this painting, and the arch is decorated with coloured stones along its edges. The figure wears yellow and red garments and long garlands, and beside him a shield-like ornament and a small vessel add detail. Below, a colourful, patterned base with blue, red and yellow geometric shapes gives the piece a folk-art quality that is very different from the plain black bases in other paintings. The combination of jewelled edges and a bright base gives the painting a lot of visual interest for such a compact size.
Bihari ji, or Banke Bihari, is the presiding deity of the famous temple at Vrindavan and is loved for his tribhang pose, bent at the neck, waist and knee. Devotees say his gaze is so affecting that the temple curtain is drawn at intervals during darshan. A painting of this form brings that Vrindavan devotion into the home, and it is among the most requested subjects in the Madan Bihari Products range.
